Jurassic World

The Dinosaur that is Jurassic Park has been Resurrected in the form of the absolutely Mammoth 3D  movie:
Jurassic World!

Jurassic World is the Fourth movie in the Jurassic Park series. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, and released by Universal Films, the theme is similar to the first movie, but has a talented new cast and high tech effects, in keeping with the 21st century.

The movie begins when brothers Zach and Gray board a flight bound for Isla Nublar, close to the Costa Rica, the site of the spectacular theme park Jurassic World.  Their Aunt Claire (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) is the park’s Operations Manager and she has invited the boys to visit the Island, and promised their mother that she will take care of them.

Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2 is a Perfect 10

I have to admit that I am not a fan of musicals but Pitch Perfect 2 is delightful!

I enjoyed the first Pitch Perfect and was skeptical that the sequel would match up, but it really did!  It was entertaining and funny right from the word go, when the Barden Bellas,  an all-female Acapella group from Barden University are invited to sing at Lincoln Centre in front of a massive audience, including the President and First lady of the United States.

Everything is going according to plan until Fat Amy is lowered over the stage “Pink” style and her costume splits and reveals all!  The Bellas are disgraced and suspended from performing on the Acapella circuit and the only way they can redeem themselves is to win an International Acapella contest that no American group has ever won.

Fast & Furious 7

Fast & Furious 7 is the best movie in the continuing saga.

The 7th movie in the Fast & Furious Franchise follows on where the 6th one ended.  After defeating Owen Shaw, Dominic Toretto and his team return to the US and resume their relatively normal lives.

Owen Shaw’s brother, Deckard, is in the US and looking for revenge against Dom and his crew. He breaks into Hobbs’ office and hacks into his computer to find the names of Dom’s team.  Hobbs and his assistant Elena return to the office and a violent fight breaks out between Hobbs and Shaw. However, Shaw detonates a bomb which sends Hobbs and Elena flying out of the window. Hobbs is injured and ends up in hospital.

The Boy Next Door

The Boy Next Door is a gripping thriller, staring Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman,  and whilst the theme is a bit stereotypical and the outcome predictable, it still kept me on the edge of my seat.

Clair Petersen, a high school teacher, is separated from her cheating husband and is living alone with her teenage son, Kevin.  Noah Sandborn, recently orphaned, comes to live with his uncle,  Claire and Kevin’s next door neighbour. He soon befriends Kevin and enrolls at the school where Claire teaches.

50 Shades of Grey

50 Shades of Grey is very tame erotic drama, and definitely worth seeing

So, we all gathered to see the much anticipated 50 Shades of Grey movie yesterday, just ahead of its Worldwide Release today. We had been warned that it was not as bad as everyone was expecting, so I went into the screening with an open, but curious mind.

I have not read E.L. James best selling novels, so I guess I was able to take this movie at face value, and I think that was in my favour.  I had read about the horrific sado masochistic scenes in the movie and heard all kinds of hype, and to be honest… it just never happened, so if you are hoping to see torture, brutality, blood, agonising screams, and smutty, debauched sex, you are going to be disappointed, as the sex in this movie is very tasteful and a far cry from what everyone expects.

Selma is a Must See Historical Drama

Selma is a story of perseverance and strength of character.  It is the story of a small group of brave and principled individuals who overcame adversity, hatred and racism in the USA, in much the same way that Nelson Mandela and his comrades did in South Africa.

It is an important dramatisation of historical fact, and it will leave you feeling pensive… sad, yet happy.

Seventh Son

Seventh Son is a Spectacular Fantasy Thriller. This 3D fantasy film will delight young adults with its witches and ghouls, sorcery and magic, and spectacular 3D effects, however for me the theme was a little tired. Never-the-less, I enjoyed the film at face value.

The opening scene shows a woman being mercilessly imprisoned in an underground cavern, in the middle of nowhere, by a young man.

The movie then fast forwards to a later time, when it becomes apparent that the imprisoned woman is a malevolent witch and the evil spectre is about to be released once again on an unsuspecting world.
