The Boy Next Door is a gripping thriller, staring Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman, and whilst the theme is a bit stereotypical and the outcome predictable, it still kept me on the edge of my seat.
Clair Petersen, a high school teacher, is separated from her cheating husband and is living alone with her teenage son, Kevin. Noah Sandborn, recently orphaned, comes to live with his uncle, Claire and Kevin’s next door neighbour. He soon befriends Kevin and enrolls at the school where Claire teaches.
Noah is drawn to Clair, even though she is old enough to be his mother After Claire has been out on a disappointing blind date, Noah invites her over for dinner, and since Kevin is away with his father, Claire accepts. Noah begins to flirt with her and even though she knows it is wrong, Claire allows Noah to seduce her. After they have had sex, Claire is very remorseful and ashamed and she tells Noah that this was a mistake. The ugly side of Noah then emerges and what follows is chilling. Noah stalks Claire, to a frightening and bizarre extent, and the movie culminates in murder and mayhem.
Go and see this movie…it’s not a memorable classic but it is an entertaining thriller.
The movie was released by Universal, and was directed by Rob Cohen and produced by Jason Blum, John Jacobs, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina and Jennifer Lopez.
The Boy Next Door is being released today, Friday 27 March, and is classified 16 LSNH.
