Pitch Perfect 2 is a Perfect 10
I have to admit that I am not a fan of musicals but Pitch Perfect 2 is delightful!
I enjoyed the first Pitch Perfect and was skeptical that the sequel would match up, but it really did! It was entertaining and funny right from the word go, when the Barden Bellas, an all-female Acapella group from Barden University are invited to sing at Lincoln Centre in front of a massive audience, including the President and First lady of the United States.
Everything is going according to plan until Fat Amy is lowered over the stage “Pink” style and her costume splits and reveals all! The Bellas are disgraced and suspended from performing on the Acapella circuit and the only way they can redeem themselves is to win an International Acapella contest that no American group has ever won.
Besides the massive competition from a number of acclaimed international groups, they have to beat the previous year’s winners, a very regimented group called Das Sound Machine, who are constantly making snide remarks and taking the Mickey out of the Bellas.
I loved the music and found my foot tapping to the melodies of many familiar Oldies. It has some very amusing moments, which had me giggling and smiling and the somewhat predictable ending left me feeling all fuzzy inside.
The brilliant cast, includes Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy, Ana Kendrick as Becca, and Ester Dean, Shelley Regner, Kelley Jakle, Brittany Snow, Alexis Knap and Hana Mae Lee all playing the same roles they played in the original film. Hailee Steinfeld, of True Grit fame, plays the role of newcomer to the Bellas, Emily.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks, written by Kay Cannon, and released by Universal Pictures, Pitch perfect 2 is a must see!
The film is being released on Friday, 15 May, at cinemas countrywide.
