Girls Trip is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. Hardly a minute went by, without me howling with laughter. This is genuinely entertaining stuff. I’m not a fan of slap stick. I prefer clever comedy, and this movie just did it for me. But, don’t get me wrong, it’s not all giggles, it’s a heart-warming movie, which conveys some great life lessons.
Madly successful author, Ryan (ye, she’s a girl) is married to Stewart, who is a good looking, sexy celeb, and also Ryan’s business partner. On the surface, it appears that Ryan has it all. When she is invited to deliver the keynote address at the Essence Fest in New Orleans, her mind wonders to her 3 college friends, Lisa, Sasha and Dina. The four of them made up the Flossy Posse, and haven’t seen each other in a while, so Ryan decides to invite them along.
And what a trip it turns out to be! Too much drinking, too much sex and way too much partying, making for a side splitting adventure. However, bubbling under all the fun, there are undertones of back stabbing, infidelity and heartbreak.
Ryan is played by Reginah Hall. Lisa, is the sensible mom (although not for long) played by Jada Pinkett Smith. Sasha, brilliantly played by Queen Latifah, is a bordering on broke gossip blogger. And, last but not least, Dina is played by Tiffany Haddish, and what a performance she gives! She is the slutty, big mouthed, totally crazy member of the group!
Malcolm D. Lee does a sterling job directing this Universal release.
Definitely an adult comedy, this is a must see for ladies night out, or date night. I guarantee you will be laughing all the way home!
The movie opens on Friday, 04 August, at cinemas countrywide and is classified 16 DLS.
