Paramount’s latest offering, GI Joe: Retaliation is a sci-fi action movie filmed in 3D. It is the sequel to the 2009 GI Joe movie, and I think I would have enjoyed this movie more if I had seen the first one. But, having said that, the pieces do start falling into place as the plot unfolds.
After the Elite GI Joe Force is framed for stealing nuclear warheads from Pakistan, almost the entire team is killed, in a military strike, and sadly Duke, their leader is one of the casualties.
Only Roadblock, Lady Jaye and Flint survive to fight back against the baddies, lead by Zartan (played by SA’s very own Arnold Vosloo) who is impersonating the US President.
The remaining Joes, joined by General Joseph Colton (played by Bruce Willis), strike back at Cobra (the bad guys, to put it simply). Lots of 3D excitement and action follows, spanning 3 continents and including some harrowing scenes on the peaks of the Himalayas, skilled Ninja fights and a daring escape from an impregnable “Fringe” type prison. Futuristic characters, among them Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, add to the fun and games.
The movie is being released on 5 April at theatres countrywide, and is classified PGV, but I don’t think it is suitable for the very young. The teens will love it though!
